Beggars Ministries

Mrs. Leela Chandy heard the word of God which teaches us to minister to the needs of the poor. Both the Old and the New Testament are filled with instructions to take care of widows, orphans, and the poor and disadvantaged.

We cater to 150-200 beggars each week on Thursdays at 6 PM with the word and good food each week at the HOLY FIRE CHURCH,Near Rail Nilayam, Ambedkarnagar Secunderabad. Here lives are transformed by the word of God as they get a revelation of who they are in Christ!! They are taught Bible stories and scriptures each week so they begin to have an encounter with the living God who loves them!! We tell them that if they believe in Jesus as Lord of their lives, then God adopts them as His own children and will provide all their needs according to His riches in glory!! We encourage them to look for jobs and to stop begging. Many many of them have found good jobs after they have received Christ as their Lord and Saviour!! Many young boys who run away from home to come and live on the railway station have been reunited with their families after the Lord touched their hearts! Many have come out of addictions of drugs and alcohol as they turned to the Lord Jesus for help! Week after week on Thursday evenings they come to learn how to worship the Lord and have a relationship with him!! Many have started small businesses and are blessed by the Lord!!

In Matthew 6:2, Jesus instructs us on how to give alms in a manner that is pleasing to God, "Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." His admonition does not say "if you give alms." Rather He states, "when you give alms." Paul understood this and states in Galatians 2:10, "Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do."

Rejoice in Christ partners can testify that by helping to meet the needs of the needy, they have been blessed in their lives richly. As part of our mandate to care for the poor, Rejoice in Christ has bi-weekly prayer meetings that primarily serve beggars, many of whom are destitute women and children. We share the riches of God’s word with them, following which, they receive a nutritious meal. Twice a week and every week, Rejoice in Christ team members undertake the phenomenal task of cooking meals consisting of rice, lentils, and vegetables. Every meal consists of 20 kgs (44 lbs) of rice, 2 kgs (4.4 lbs) of lentils (dhal), 15 kgs (33 lbs) of vegetables (such as peas, carrots, potatoes, onions, and beans), and herbs and spices. To ensure that our meals are nutritious and well-balanced, we also serve 150-180 eggs each meeting. At Christmas, our meals also include 15 kgs (33 lbs) of mutton and 100 kgs (220 lbs) of chicken. The food is packaged in aluminum foil, and served at the close of the meeting. Each meal is carefully prepared and represents a labor of love. Slum Ministries

This ministry serves women and children in the poorest slums of Secunderabad. Through the use of flannel boards and pictures, the Rejoice in Christ ministry team teaches the women and children in some of the poorest neighborhoods the word of God. Women and children learn each week about the miracles of Jesus and His saving work on the cross. They learn how to walk each day with Jesus, standing on His promises and trusting in His goodness. Our heart's cry is echoed in Colossians 1:27 which says, "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" to become a reality in their lives. Our ambition is that Jesus Christ would be formed in their hearts and become a personal reality to them.
